Annual Chapter Meeting

Site Map

The 2002 meeting has been renamed "Autumn Assembly". The new name emphasizes that this is a gathering for ALL Sierra Club members and friends, not just members with leadership positions. Please plan to attend.

The Four Lakes Sierra Group (serving Madison, Dane County, and Southwest Wisconsin) is sponsoring the 2002 Autumn Assembly. The event will be held October 18-20. It will be held at Camp Helen Brachman, the site of the 2001 gathering.

The 2001 Annual Chapter Meeting

The Fox Valley Sierra Group is hosting the 2001 John Muir Chapter Annual Meeting. It will be held October 12-14 at Camp Helen Brachman in Almond, Wisconsin. This was the location of the 1995 Annual Chapter Meeting. Dale Schaber says the camp facilities are even better now! Mark your calendar and plan to attend. This is not just for club officers -- all members (and Sierra Club "friends") will find this to be a great experience.

Dale Schaber is in charge of this event. His phone number (in Appleton) is 920-739-6041. Dale's email is dale.schaber@wisconsin.sierraclub.org

Lodge at Camp Helen Brachman

Wondering what to do during the second weekend of October? Why not join other Wisconsin Sierra Club members at the Annual Meeting of the John Muir Chapter of the Sierra Club. The Annual Meeting will be held on October 12-14, 2001 at Camp Helen Brachman, the Children's Outing Association Camp, which is located west of Waupaca, Wisconsin.

Camp Helen Brachman is located near the town of Almond, Wisconsin, between Waupaca and Stevens Point. The Camp offers 200 acres of open prairie, red pine plantation and upland hardwood forest. It is located on Pickerel Lake, a small lake that is surrounded by a sand beach and wooded bluffs. Camp Helen Brachman is the only property on Pickerel Lake. There are athletic fields, hiking trails, fishing, canoeing, games and other seasonal sports activities available at the Camp.

The Main Lodge will be the site for meals and large group activities. Maps of Camp Brachman will be available when you arrive for the weekend. Families will stay in the Retreat Center. Individuals may stay in a heated cabin or the Guest House. Tenting is also available. Bath facilities are indoors with hot water and showers.

The Camp will provide food service and beds with mattresses. Guests are expected to provide bedding and towels, all weather clothing, personal gear and snacks.

A complete schedule of programs, workshops, speakers, driving directions, special activities for children and lodging information will appear in the September/October issue of the Muir View. The programs scheduled for the Annual Meeting were selected with the idea of providing information about environmental issues, concerns and programs that are of importance in the Fox Valley area. In addition, Wisconsin Sierra Club members will learn about issues that are relevant at the state and national levels from the John Muir Chapter and the Midwest Office representatives.

State Senator Dave Hansen from Green Bay has been invited to the Annual Meeting. He will be with us on Saturday.

Outdoor and indoor activities are scheduled for children during the day on Saturday. Please indicate on the registration form if you have children that will participate in these activities.

If you have questions or need more information, contact Maureen Birk at (920) 468-7252 in Green Bay or Dale Schaber at (920) 739-6041 in Appleton or contact Dale by e-mail at: dale.schaber@wisconsin.sierraclub.org. You may also check this web site for current information about the Annual Meeting. The registration form is found on our web site. Please print out a copy and register for the Annual Meeting. Register before than October 1, 2001 and be eligible for door prizes!

If you are arriving on Friday night, please bring a snack to share after the evening's program. Napkins, plates, and utensils will be provided.

Plan on attending the Annual Meeting of the John Muir Chapter. It will be both an enjoyable and an educational experience. Let's have some fun! Best of all you will have the chance to renew old acquaintances, meet other members of the Fox Valley Sierra Group and make new friends among Sierra Club members in Wisconsin!
