The Fox Valley Sierra Group is sponsoring a garlic mustard pull service project on Saturday, May 10 (11am - 2pm).
Garlic mustard is an invasive (non-native) species which often chokes off the native vegetation of an area. By pulling the garlic mustard plant early in spring and removing the root, we prevent it from going to seed and returning to spread and overrun the affected area. Adults and youth (middle school and older) are invited to participate. Garlic mustard, perhaps knee-height at its tallest, is easy to pull. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and bring work gloves. Individuals may just show up. Groups please call Dale in advance so that volunteers are appropriately coordinated. For more information or to RSVP call Dale at 920-739-6041 or email at dschaber@athenet.net. For more information and photos of garlic mustard, see DNR Factsheet on Garlic Mustard |
We are having a Garlic Mustard Pull at High Cliff State Park on May 10, 2008. The event starts at 11:00 AM and lasts until 2:00 or 3:00 PM. We will meet at the Park Office at 11:00 AM and then travel to where we will pull the Garlic Mustard. Please bring work gloves, wear appropriate clothing and a lunch. I will supply liquid refreshments. You will be able to enter the park without a Park Sticker. Just mention that you are volunteering to pull Garlic Mustard. If you have any questions, please contact me at 739-6041 or by email. ~Dale Schaber
Although this is our "Earth Day" project we do this during the month of May so that the plants will be larger and easier to recognize.
